Meet Our Founders: Dr. Jerome Liu

Dr. Jerome Liu realized he was passionate about surgery at an incredibly young age. In fact, he was amongst a handful of high school students to receive guaranteed admission to a medical school under Brown University’s medical education program. Following Brown University, Dr. Liu sharpened his skills, nurtured his passion, and continued his winning streak by graduating with the highest honors from the reputable UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, acquiring a coveted membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

Following his UCLA Plastic Surgery Fellowship, the renowned University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center and Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute (DPSI) offered Jerome a prestigious position as an Assistant Instructor and Aesthetic Fellow, one of the country’s most valued fellowship programs for aesthetic plastic surgery. His fellowship program got him in touch with some of the leading experts in the field of aesthetic plastic surgery, from whom he learned the latest techniques in facelifts, rhinoplasty, body contouring, and other surgical procedures.

Why Board Certification Matters

The most important part of a plastic surgeon's credentials is his or her certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. These boards are not just exams but are indications of satisfactory completion of more than 15 to 17 years of premedical, medical, and surgical training and specialization.

This will signify that your surgeon has undergone rigorous and standardized training in a qualified institution and has passed thorough tests that have determined him or her to be a safe, knowledgeable and competent surgeon. You’ll only find surgeons like these at our Los Gatos office and our other locations.

Most well-trained plastic surgeons are also pre-trained in another surgical specialty such as general surgery and can be certified by that board — e.g. The American Board of Surgery. Such dual certification translates into your assurance that you are dealing with a seasoned and competent surgeon.

Meet Our Founders: Dr. Tom Liu

Dr. Tom S. Liu has a star-studded education and training background, dotted with charitable and philanthropic endeavors. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University, after which he attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, followed closely with a five-year combined MD and MBA program at the Booth School of Business.

His time at the University of Chicago was perhaps the most influential point in his life because he discovered his passion for plastic surgery when he aided in the reconstructive surgery of children with congenital deformities during a medical mission in Puerto Rico.

During his time at UCLA, Dr. Liu honed his interest in aesthetic plastic surgery and microvascular surgery. He followed his passion to the Plastic Surgery Institute in San Francisco, where he completed an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training, one of the country’s only fellowship programs to combine aesthetic surgery and advanced microsurgery.

At this stage, Dr. Liu worked closely with some of the world’s most reputable and remarkable plastic surgeons, imbibing their cumulative experience and knowledge with facial plastic surgeries, injectables, breast reconstructive surgeries, microsurgeries, body aesthetic plastic surgeries, and more.
